Heathcliff Wolverhampton, Leandra Stockton, and Crimson Jefferies were bored high school students yearning for a more mystical existence. The three called themselves the Coven of Corpses. At first, they dressed in a Gothic fashion and made up fake spells. But then Leandra obtained an ancient tome entitled "The Fabric of Despair"…
Following the cryptic writings each made totems from carrying materials: Onyx for Heathcliff, Steel for Leandra, and Bone for Crimson. Upon chanting the spell, the Totems exploded, knocking all three out. When they awoke they found their skin replaced by living material of the type of their totems. The Coven of Corpses now had power, but at what cost? They eventually found their way to Citizen Dawn's side as Citizens Blood, Sweat, and Tears.
