Environment: Tomb of Anubis

Set: Infernal Relics

Dr. Blake Washington, Jr. found the Staff of Ra in a hidden temple to Ra. This ancient relic turned him into the mighty Ra, God of the Sun! Roderick Ward and his group of grave robbing adventurers found the Shrine of the Ennead, and within, the relics which transformed them into the powerful Egyptian pantheon!

However, not all tales of Egyptian gods are actually of relic-bearing heroes. In fact, one notable figure still exists: Anubis, Lord of Judgement! Anubis guards the gates of the underworld, judging those who pass from this life to the next, and manifesting in this world only when something upsets the balance of his scales. With so many new bearers of ancient Egyptian power making waves in this world, Anubis has been disturbed! He draws groups of powerful heroes and villains into his tomb to battle, and to be judged.

The Tomb of Anubis is filled with traps and trials, but also with treasure! Terrible mummies patrol the tomb, resetting the traps and assaulting any they come across. And, of course, Anubis himself judges all within. Do you dare to brave the Tomb of Anubis?!

Artwork

  • "Judgement of Anubis" includes Ammit, the eater of souls. Her role would be to eat the heart being weighed against the feather of Truth if it's heavier.
  • "Swarm of Scarabs" shows Bunker from behind, looking up at the swarming insects.
  • "Cast into the Underworld" shows Visionary being submerged in some glowing green mist.
  • "Spike Trap" shows the Wraith being surprised by a skull impaled on a spike.

Confirmed

  • This deck contains one of the few non-character card/villain card nemesis - Anubis, with Ra's symbol. Likewise, he is a nemesis to the entire Ennead

To Other Works

  • The Tomb of Anubis is based on the various depictions of ancient trap-laden tombs in popular culture. Among the most famous of these fictional tombs is the one from the opening of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
  • The pool of necrotic miasma that the Visionary is struggling within on "Cast Into the Underworld" is very similar to the whirlpool of the dead seen at the climax of the Disney movie Hercules.
  • Most of the mummy cards are homages of mummies from various films.

Fireside Chats

  • If Anubis is not in play at the end of the environment turn, no damage is dealt and Judgement of Anubis is destroyed.
  • Urshe plays cards in the order they are revealed.
  • When a Treasure card is in a hero’s play area and they are incapacitated, it stays there. It can be moved when a Trial is next destroyed.
  • The Challenge of Fire allows each player to discard up to 3 cards, even if the total is more than H plus 2.
  • Treasure cards do not count towards the hero with the most/least cards in play, because they do not belong to a hero.

Spiff's Clarifications

Judgement of Anubis

  • This card says that when it enters play, you search for the “Anubis” card and put it into play, and that at the end of the environment turn, Anubis deals each target 2 infernal damage and destroys this card. The game designers have stated that the effect is worded poorly and it shouldn’t be construed that Anubis is the one destroying the card, but just that the card is to be destroyed at the end of the environment turn. So, even if Anubis were to be destroyed before the end of the environment turn, “Judgement of Anubis” will still be destroyed. [1]
